2008 IN MEMORY OF "SMOKEY"
A GREAT 8th
TEXAS CAVALRY MOUNT
|
There
is a long tradition in the
cavalry that there is a place
where the grass is forever green
along a flowing river forever
clear. It is along the banks of
this river on fiddler’s green
that horses forever graze. I
know of no bond like that of a
cavalryman and his mount. It is
that mere animal that makes the
cavalryman what he is. That is
something special more than a
mere man, a cavalryman. We hold
our mounts in a special place in
our hearts and minds. There is
no greater tragedy for the
cavalryman than the lose of his
horse. If he loses the battle,
he still has his horse.
